Major Winter Storm Impacts Nebraska

A major winter storm moving in from the west will dump heavy snow in the midwest, including Nebraska. According to WOWT areas of drizzle and patchy fog will give way to increasing rain chances across the metro late in Sunday afternoon and into this evening.

The transition into snow showers will take place Sunday after 9 p.m. for areas including Norfolk and Wayne County.

The metro will see snow showers move in by daybreak Monday and could cause slippery conditions for the morning commute.  An inch or less is expected for the metro area.

Winter storm and blizzard warnings are in effect for a large portion of the state. Heavy snow is likely across areas to the north and west. Areas including Columbus, Norfolk, and Humphrey could get pounded with 6” to 9”. Isolated higher amounts of a foot cannot be ruled out in those areas as well.

Winds could gust up to 45 to 50 mph. Fast moving winds will likely cause blowing and drifting snow and create areas of reduced visibility, even whiteout conditions in some places under a blizzard warning.
