New Online Renewal For Concealed Handgun Permits Successful

California AG Kamala Harris Holds News Conference On Gun Violence

A new online renewal for concealed handgun permits has been an overwhelming success in the first three months.

The Nebraska State Patrol officially launched the online CHP renewal process in October and issued more than 1,800 renewals through the online system by the end of 2017.“The online renewal process is a major time-saver for both the public and Nebraska State Patrol staff,” says Colonel John Bolduc, patrol superintendent. “But at the same time, NSP utilizes the exact same security protocol making sure the system is safe and ensuring that only qualified concealed handgun permit renewals are approved.”

He says the online renewal saved approximately 35 minutes per application, which amounted to 610 hours of savings in the final three months of 2017. Bolduc says the public doesn't have to travel to a state patrol office and could save an estimated one hour each in renewing the permit. The online renewal fee is $4.50. New applications must still be completed in person at a state patrol office.

Bolduc says 72 percent of renewals used the online system in the first three months. You can renew an online concealed handgun permit, at nebraska.gov/apps-nsp-chp
