The Omaha Public School District continues their search for a new superintendent. The board met behind closed doors Sunday to review the list of candidates and applications. They will then come up with a group of semi-finalists to chose from.
“We’ve built solid momentum these past several years and our goal is to continue building on that momentum,” said OPS Board President Marque Snow. “We’ve had numerous successes, but we also have challenges ahead. Our goal is to name an experienced leader who has the education, expertise and leadership acumen to move our district forward.”
The next step is scheduled to come on January 22nd, as recommendations of finalists are presented to the board for approval. The application process was closed January 5 and 74 candidates have been idrntified.
The Superintendent Search Committee has tentatively scheduled community meet-and-greets and board interviews with the finalists on January 30th.
The meet-and-greets and interviews will take place at the Teacher Administrative Center (TAC) located at 3215 Cuming Street.
- Meet and Greets are from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the TAC cafeteria
- Interviews are from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Board Room
District officials say a superintendent could be named by late January or early February.
“I think the board is collectively impressed with the caliber of candidates who have applied to become the next leader of our school district,” said Snow. “We feel the final candidates will represent the rich variety of leadership experiences our district needs as we move toward the future.”
