A tragic story out of Council Bluffs after a two year old girl dies two days after being pulled from a house fire. Authorities say 37-year-old Michelle Patton and 2-year-old A'Nyia Patton both sustained quite a bit of smoke inhalation and required CPR as they were rushed to a pair of Omaha hospitals.
Fire Chief Justin James tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB when they arrvived to 228 Harrison Street Wednesday morning they found smoke coming from the rear of the building. As crews were knocking down the flames, a search and rescue team found the woman and child unresponsive in a bedroom.
James says CPR was initiated on both of them by medics on scene. Michelle Patton is at Nebraska Medical Center and A'Nyia died at Children's Hospital.
The fire appeared to be contained to one room in the eight unit apartment building. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined and the investigation is still ongoing.
