An Omaha Fire Department battalion chief was injured in a two vehicle crash at 33rd and Seward this afternoon as he responded to a house fire two blocks away.
Assistant Chief Kathy Bossman says his SUV had it's lights and sirens on when it was struck by a car. She says the battalion chief suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.
The driver of the car was taken to the Creighton University Medical Center-University Campus medical facility in serious condition.
The fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. in the attic of a house at 35th and Seward. The flames tore through the roof and firefighters had to fight it from the outside. The American Red Cross was called to help the residents.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries fighting the blaze. One was a minor burn to the hand and the other was a back injury.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
