Lawmakers Debate State Helmet Law Again

Nebraska lawmakers are going around and around again on the topic of the state's motorcycle helmet law.

Legislators who oppose the nearly 30 year old law brought a repeal to the table in Monday's session after a repeal fell just one vote shy during the 2017 session.

The repeal would allow motorcyclists 21 and older to ride without a helmet, but cyclists would be required to wear eye protection. Those in favor of the repeal say it bring more tourism dollars into Nebraska. Opponents of repeal say traumatic head injuries from motorcycle crashes would affect the economy and result in higher insurance premiums.
