Bellevue Police have released more details in Friday morning's deadly crash on southbound JFK near Chandler Road. Investigators say the three vehicle crash killed 19 year old Khalil Shemar Jones from Florida and 47 year old Shamus Dean of Papillion.
According to police a black Pontiac G6, driven by Jones, had stalled along the roadway around 3:00 a.m. Moments later a maroon Chevrolet truck driven by Dean pulled to the side of the road to assist Jones and his two passengers.
Police say an A R tow truck was also traveling southbound and was driving erratically. The truck, driven by 57 year old James Helbect of Bellevue, crashed into the car and the pickup truck. Jones and Dean were killed at the scene. Offutt Air Force Base officials say Jones was an active-duty airman stationed at Offutt.
The two passengers in Jones' car, 18 year old Tyquan Malik Petty of Omaha and a 15 year old girl from Omaha, were taken to Nebraska Medicine in critical condition. Helbect was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation and it has not yet been determined if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
