The teen accused of causing a fatal New Year's Day accident has been ordered by a Douglas County judge to be held on $1 million bond.
Nineteen year old Vismar Carmona-Martinez has been charged with Motor Vehicle Homicide while Under the Influence. Prosecutors say at the time of the crash Carmona-Martinez had a blood alcohol level of .240. That BAC is more than three times the legal limit.
Authorities say just after midnight Monday morning, Carmona-Martinez was speeding on northbound Highway 75 when he slammed into the back of a Chevy Spark driven by 67 year old Ann Smock. Carmona-Martinez's Chevy Malibu then crossed two northbound lanes of Highway 75 and hit a concrete barrier.
Smock was taken to an area hospital suffering from critical injuries and died a short time later.
A high bond was requested by prosecutors because they say Carmona-Martinez is in the United States illegally and is a flight risk. The judge agreed with the request.
A preliminary hearing for Carmona-Martinez is set for February 5th.
