The Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam that is making the rounds.
They say a man is calling residents and advising individuals they missed a notice for jury duty and have an outstanding warrant for their arrest. The perpetrator is using Sarpy County Sheriff’s Deputies names in the process and indicate the arrest warrant can be cleared by paying a fine over the phone.
Potential victims have been instructed to purchase a pre-paid money card and call the perpetrator back with the card number and access code to clear the warrant. The shreiff's office stresses that they do not solicit money over the phone.
Residents are encouraged to verify the identity of anyone who says they are a Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office employee by calling the front desk at 402-593-2288.
