Omaha Woman Killed In Crash Early New Year's Morning

An Omaha woman was killed in a two vehicle crash just minutes into the beginning of 2018.  It happened on JFK near O street around 12:20 Monday morning.

According to Omaha Police, 19-year-old Vismar Carmona-Martinez was driving a 2011 Chevy Malibu north on JFK.  Witnesses tell police he was traveling over the posted 60 mph speed limit.  He then slammed into the back of a 2016 Chevy Spark driven by 67-year-old Ann Smock of Omaha.

Her car was sitting on the off-ramp for L Street when Martinez hit her vehicle.  His car then crossed two northbound lanes on Highway 75 and hit a concrete barrier.

Smock was taken to Nebraska Medicine in critical condition but died shortly after arriving.  Martinez was not hurt in the crash.  He was taken to OPD headquarters where he was given a breathalyzer test.

He was then booked in to Douglas County Corrections for one count of felony motor vehicle homicide.
