Pottawattmie County law enforcement are warning residents of a phone scam circulating through the community.
Authorities say deputies with the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office have received multiple calls this week reporting that they had been contacted by a member of the Sheriff’s Office about missing a court appearance. Residents say the scammers told them they would be taken to jail if they did not pay a fine.
The Sheriff's Office points out that this is a scam and they would never call on the phone to demand any type of payment in lieu of arrest.
If you receive a call like this, you should report it to your local law enforcement. Additionally, always call law enforcement to check with them before you send any sort of payment.
