A man is behind bars after assaulting a Nebraska State Patrol Trooper Tuesday night.
Authorities say the incident occurred around 5:00 at a house in Plainview, Nebraska. Trooper Brandon Viterna went to the home to follow up with a woman involved in a previous car accident. When Viterna arrived, he was confronted by a man outside the home.
The man, 52 year old Billy Ray Hoscheit, reached into a vehicle and pulled out a machete while yelling at the trooper. Hoscheit then put the machete back into the car and approached Viterna. Trooper Viterna pushed him away, but Hoscheit charged at Viterna, which led to a physical confrontation. During the confrontation, Hoscheit struck Viterna in the face.
The trooper called for back up with officers from the Plainview Police Department, Pierce County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol arriving on the scene.
Hoscheit retreated into the house and locked the door. Officers attempted to get Hoscheit to voluntarily surrender, but had to make entry into the house after he refused. A second struggle ensued with Hoscheit eventually being taken into custody.
After being taken into custody, Hoscheit complained of chest pains and was transported to the Plainview Hospital where he was evaluated and released. Hoscheit is facing a laundry list of charges including Assault on an Officer, Resisting Arrest, Obstruction and Disobeying a Lawful Order.
Trooper Viterna was evaluated at Plainview Hospital and released.
