Public Service Commission Denies Keystone XL Amendment

The Nebraska Public Service Commission denied an application by TransCanada to amend their proposed route.

On Tuesday, the NPSC issued an order that denied TransCanada a motion for reconsideration of the Keystone route by a unanimous vote of 5-0.

The motion was attempting to change the application for the pipeline, because the company's preferred route wasn't approved by the commission. The route approved by the five commissioners was deemed "unworkable" by TransCanada. TransCanada's options at this point are to agree to the route suggested by the NPSC, or file a court appeal in the case.

Ken Winston, attorney for the Sierra Club's Nebraska Chapter, says their group sees Tuesday's ruling by the commission as a win.

“We are pleased the Commission denied TransCanada’s motion to amend their application. This should send a message to TransCanada and their investors that Nebraskans don’t want their tar sands pipeline. TransCanada should do the right thing for once and withdraw their application. If they choose to appeal, we will continue to fight the Keystone XL tar sands export pipeline until it is finally stopped.”
