Man Wanted In Council Bluffs Murder Arrested

A man sought in the murder of a homeless man in Council bluffs is now behind bars.

Council Bluffs Police say 43 year old Michael John Thacker was arrested in Lincoln, Nebraska on a misdemeanor charge. Thacker is currently being housed in the Lancaster County Jail while he waits for extradition back to Iowa.

Last week, Thacker was named by Council Bluffs Police as the suspect in the murder of 34 year old David Simpson. Simpson was found dead in a vacant lot around 10:30 AM on December 11th by a man walking his dog near the West Broadway viaduct.

An autopsy ruled Simpson's death was due to blunt-force trauma. Police issued a First Degree Murder Warrant for Thacker, who is also homeless, but were not able to locate him. They arrested 53 year old Cleo William McClellan for assisting Thacker in Simpson's murder.
