Tow Truck Driver Critically Injured

An Omaha tow truck driver is in the hospital after being hit by a vehicle on I-80 near Q Street around 1:45 Monday afternoon.

Police say a semi truck and trailer had broken down on the outside shoulder and a Neff Towing semi-tow truck was hooking up to the semi to remove it.  Investigators say the tow driver was working in between the tow truck and the semi tractor when a Ford F-150 travelling in the far right lane drifted over onto the shoulder and struck the semi trailer.

Police say the pickup continued scraping alongside the trailer and semi tractor before striking the tow driver.  70 year old Larry Miller suffered a leg injury and is in critical but stable condition.

The driver of the Ford F-150 was identified was not injured.  Police say alcohol use was not a factor in the crash and so far no citations have been issued.
