Sarpy County Authorities Release Details In Papillion Shooting

Sarpy County authorities say a woman that was shot by her husband and left for dead on the floor of their home was not found for nearly a week.

Just before 10:30 Wednesday morning Sarpy County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a home in the Lakewood Villages development just south of 48th Street and Highway 370.

Chief Deputy Greg London says a family friend called 9-1-1 after not hearing from 67 year old Cheri Langill for awhile. "The first deputy went inside the house, he forced entry through the front door, looked around and realized that things were amiss."

London says shortly after getting into the home, the deputy found Cheri Langill in the basement of the home. "Ultimately he heard Mrs. Langill screaming, realized that she was downstairs. He went and checked on her and then called for a rescue squad."

Cheri was lucid enough to tell deputies that her husband, 68 year old Karl Langill, had shot her on Thursday, December 7th during a domestic dispute.

London says shortly after Cheri was found in the basement, deputies located Karl in the garage of the home. "The investigation indicates that Mr. Langill entered his garage, he started his wife's car, and it looks like he died of carbon monoxide poisoning."

Cheri Langill is currently in stable condition at Nebraska Medicine.
