Nebraska Republican Official Resigns In Wake RNC's Support Of Moore

A Nebraska Republican National Committeewoman resigned on Monday in the wake of the RNC's support of embattled Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore.

In an email to fellow party officials, Joyce Simmons said she disagreed with the party's financial support of Moore.

“I strongly disagree with the recent RNC financial support directed to the Alabama Republican Party for use in the Roy Moore race. There is much I could say about this situation, but I will defer to this weekend's comments by Senator Shelby. I will miss so many of you that I knew well; and wish I could have continued my service to the national Republican Party that I used to know well.”

The comments Simmons referred to in her email were that of Alabama senior senator Richard Shelby, who told CNN on Sunday that his state deserves better than Moore. Shelby also said he decided to write-in a candidate, instead of voting for Moore or Democrat Doug Jones.

Simmons reportedly submitted her resignation to RNC Committee chair Ronna McDaniel on Friday.

Moore has been accused of sexual misconduct with underage girls while he was in his 30's. The RNC had withdrawn its support of Moore after the allegations became known in November, but reinvested in Moore's campaign after President Trump gave his endorsement. The committee has reportedly sent the Alabama Republican Party $170,000 in support of Moore's race.
