Suspect In South Omaha Shooting Death Arrested

Omaha Police have arrested a man in connection to a Wednesday afternoon shooting death.

The shooting was reported just after 4:00 near 48th Avenue and Y Street, and when officers arrived they found 32 year old Matthew Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound. Johnson was transported to Nebraska Medicine and later died from his injuries.

Authorities say the suspect in the shooting, 31 year old Matthew Arnold, was arrested early Thursday morning. Arnold was taken into custody after investigators saw a man matching the suspect description get into the passenger side of a vehicle near 48th and Y. Officers conducted a traffic stop and were able to take Arnold into custody without incident. 

Arnold was booked into Douglas County Corrections for Second Degree Murder.
