A building near 15th and Howard was briefly evacuated Thursday afternoon after a refrigerant leak was reported.
It happened around 2:30 at the former Patrick's Market, which recently closed. Battalion Fire Chief Rob McEvoy says an auction had occurred in the building earlier today. He says someone was removing one of the refrigeration units that had been purchased and cut through an active line that still had refrigerant in it.
McEvoy says there were about 15 people inside the building at the time, but all were evacuated safely and did not suffer any breathing issues.
Firefighters were able to shut off the valve and isolate the freon. The building was then ventilated and turned it back over to the owners.
