Canfield's Closing After 70 Years

A longtime Omaha business will be closing their doors after the holidays. Canfield's owner Scott Marble announced on Wednesday, that after 71 years in business they will be liquidating the store and closing their doors.

Marble tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB that there were a number of factors that went in to his decision, including online shopping competition and warmer winters. "There were just too many headwinds. Too many gut punches. I looked at it and decided that if I wanted to end well, take care of my people, do as well as I could in being able to take care of everybody, I needed to pull the eject button."

Marble was an employee of the store, and after spending some time away, he came back home and bought the sporting goods store in 2014. He says he feels blessed and fortunate to have been able to help nurture and foster Omahan's love for the outdoors. "It's just been a privilege for us to be able to be a part of the Omaha community, to be able to interact with and get to know them better."

Marble says the store will be closed on Thursday in order to get the store ready for a liquidation sale. The store will reopen on Friday for the sale, and will stay open into the new year in order to sell off their inventory.
