Nebraska football's new head coach Scott Frost has named seven coaches to his staff. All seven of the coaches were with Frost at the University of Central Florida, and will be making the move to Nebraska with him.
The coaches are as follows:
- Greg Austin: Offensive line
- Erik Chianander: Defensive coordinator
- Mike Dawson: Defensive line
- Jovan Dewitt: Outside linebackers and special teams
- Travis Fisher: Defensive backs
- Ryan Held: Running backs
- Mario Verduzco: Quarterbacks
The seven assistant coaches bring a total of 123 years of coaching experience to Frost's staff. Coaches Austin and Held are former Nebraska players and former Husker All-American linebacker Barrett Ruud is expected to become the tenth assistant after NCAA teams are allowed to add an extra assistant in January. Ruud is currently on Frost's staff as a recruiter.
Frost says the coaches are a huge part of his success as a coach at UCF. “This is an outstanding group of coaches and men of tremendous character who have played a key role in our success at UCF the past two seasons. They are excellent teachers, mentors and recruiters and have earned great respect from the young men who play for them. I am proud they have chosen to join our staff as we get started at Nebraska.”
The coaches are currently considered part-time employees for Nebraska, so that way they can still coach UCF in the Peach Bowl on New Years Day and will switch over to full-time after that game. All of the assistant coaches will have two year contracts through December 31st, 2019.
Frost still needs to fill two assistant coach positions, including offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach.
