The Omaha Police Department now have 25 new recruits and 28 lateral recruits in their ranks. Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert and Police Chief Todd Schmaderer welcomed the newest members of the department during a ceremony Monday morning at the Omaha Public Safety Training Center.
This class of 53 is a unique one as it is the first time OPD newcomers will have the chance to go through train alongside veteran officers who have come from other agencies. The 25 new recruits will undergo 22 weeks of training. The 28 lateral transfer recruits, who have previously earned their Nebraska law enforcement certification, will spend eleven weeks in training.
