The Salvation Army got a little extra boost this weekend for their Tree of Lights campaign. A 2016 American Gold Eagle coin was dropped in the red kettle at Hy-Vee grocery store on 180th and Pacific Street this past Saturday.
The coin weighs 1/10 of an ounce and its value is approximately $145. "What a wonderful surprise, we are so thankful to the anonymous donor who donated a gold coin," says Major Rochelle McClintock.
The Salvation Army also received a 1945 Liberty half dollar, valued at $13, and was found on Saturday in a red kettle at Baker’s on 120 & W. Center Rd. The Tree of Lights $2.8 million campaign began Nov. 10.
The drive runs through Dec. 23. Hundreds of more volunteer bell ringers are needed. Register online at ringomaha.org or call 402.898.6000.
