Rooftop Ice Rink Moves To The Ground

Due to the higher than expected interest and anticipated large crowds, Midtown Crossing and The Salvation Army decided to move the previously announced rooftop skating rink to a ground level location in midtown Omaha.   The rink will be re-constructed at 3409 Farnam St., just west of Mutual of Omaha Bank.

“We want the experience to be accessible and special for everyone, and in the final analysis we realized anticipated large crowds could overwhelm the capacity of the rooftop space," says Molly Skold, Midtown Crossing’s vice-president of marketing & communications.

"Since safety and positive guest experience are paramount, we made the choice to relocate the rink to an area better equipped to handle the activity,” Skold says.  “The important elements will remain.  The rink can be open regardless of the temperatures, and we look forward to raising money and awareness for a great organization.”

The opening of the rink, originally set for Saturday, December 2, is now set for Saturday, December 9.  The skating venue will encompass a 60’ x 80’ all-weather “synthetic ice” rink, skate rental shack, fire features, seating, audio and lighting.

Admission (including skate rental) is $5 with all proceeds benefitting The Salvation Army.
