Man Killed By Train Near Waverly Identified

Lancaster County Sheriff's officials have identified the man who was struck and killed by a train near the intersection of Amberly Road and Highway 6 just west of Waverly on Thursday.

Authorities found 25 year old Jeremy Sanchez of Lincoln dead between the railroad tracks and Highway 6. The investigation has revealed that Sanchez was walking eastbound on or near the railroad tracks when he was struck from behind by a BNSF Railway freight train.  

Witnesses report the crew sounded the horn and applied the emergency brakes for some time prior to the train hitting Sanchez.   The investigation is ongoing, an autopsy has been ordered.
