Zoo Welcomes Second Giraffe Calf Of Year

There is a new addition at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. A female giraffe calf was born on Tuesday.  This is the first calf for mother Layla, a 7-year-old female reticulated giraffe.

This is the second giraffe calf born at the zoo this year. Malcom was born on April 30.  Zoo officials say Layla helped the calf stand shortly after birth.

Both can be seen by zoo visitors in the Giraffe Herd Rooms. They will be introduced to the rest of the herd in the coming weeks.   Visitors are encouraged to help name the calf by submitting names in the Giraffe Herd Rooms. Submissions will be accepted from Dec. 1-8.
