Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts will unveil the new “Choose Life” license plate at a Monday morning News Conference In Omaha.
In April, Ricketts signed a bill allowing Nebraskans to display their opposition to abortion on their license plates. At the time Ricketts said manufacturing the "Choose Life" plates is a small step to celebrate Nebraska's "culture of pro-life."
Ricketts will be joined by Lt. Governor Mike Foley, Senator Dan Watermeier and representatives from University of Nebraska-Lincoln Students for Life, Bethlehem House and other groups.
Opponents of the law argued the state should not put political speech on license plates. The plates will be available January 1 and will cost $5 more than standard license plates. Revenue from them will supplement federal funding for the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families program.
