Saunders County Bank Robbery Suspects Arrested

A bank robbery in Saunders County Wednesday morning led to a wild pursuit through west Omaha. After the bank in Malmo, Nebraska was held up at gunpoint around 8:40, Saunders County authorities and the Nebraska State Patrol began pursuing one of the vehicles involved.

During the chase, speeds reached 80 MPH.  Sergeant John Olsen with the Nebraska State Patrol says the white Chevy Lumina was tracked to a parking lot near 114th and Center.   Olsen says after one of the tires went flat, the driver got out and ran to the nearby Russell Speeders car wash where he was arrested.

"It was a pretty wild time. He was doing a lot of funny driving and got a blown tire."  During the chase, a Yutan Police cruiser crashed in the front yard of a home.  No one was injured.

Saunders County Sheriff Kevin Stukenholtz says four other suspects linked to the bank robbery were arrested in various locations.  Two of them were arrested in Saunders County and the other three in the metro area.  Stukenholtz says three vehicles were also involved in the hold-up.  Investigators are still sorting out the details.

The robbery and pursuit comes one week after three men were arrested after robbing a Fremont bank and leading authorities on a chase that ended with their arrests at Village Pointe.
