Omaha Police Cracking Down On Seat Belt Violations

The Thanksgiving holiday is one of the busiest time of year and Omaha Police are urging motorists to take time to buckle up before hitting the road.

Police say the statistics show the best way to reduce your chances of death or serious bodily injury in a motor vehicle crash is to buckle up.    Of the 34 fatal car crashes that the Omaha Police Department Traffic Unit has investigated in 2017, fourteen had a victim who was not wearing their seat belt.

Statistics show that the Thanksgiving holidays period is a deadly time of year for motorists who aren't wearing a seat belt. The Omaha Police Department is taking part in the nationwide “Click It or Ticket” campaign. It started Monday and will run through November 26.

The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety has awarded $12,000 to put extra officers on the streets enforcing Nebraska’s seat belt and child restraint laws. Operations will be conduct throughout the city at various times during the campaign.

The goal of the “Click It or Ticket” campaign is to increase the awareness of the state's seat belt and child restraint laws while increasing the percentage of drivers who comply with these laws.
