Bond Set At $1M For Teen Accused Of Shooting At Officer

Bond was set Tuesday at $1 million for an Omaha teenager accused of firing shots at an Omaha Police officer over the weekend.

19 year old Xavier Valentine is charged with felony assault on an officer, possession of a gun by a prohibited person.

The incident happened near 46th and Lafayette on Saturday. Police say an officer was targeted and suffered minor injuries from broken glass. The officer did not fire his weapon during the incident.  The incident began as the officer, who was in an unmarked vehicle, noticed a man he knew to be a gang member with a gun in his hand.

The officer pulled around the corner to radio for assistance and put on his tactical vest, which identifies him as an Omaha Police Department officer.

Authorities say that as he was doing this, the suspect came around the corner and fired a gun at the officer who was seated in his vehicle.  The vehicle was hit and the officer was able to take evasive measures.
