Annexation Plan Approved In Gretna

The Gretna City Council voted Tuesday to move forward with its annexation plan despite potential legal action from Sarpy County.

City leaders voted 4-0 with its plans to annex land, which would include Vala's Pumpkin Patch. The proposed annexations include an Interstate 80 gateway and community entrance to Gretna.

Gretna would boost population by nearly 3,000 people.  In October, the Sarpy County Attorney’s office announced plans to sue the city of Gretna over the annexation plan saying "the plaintiff will suffer immediate irreparable harm to an essential governmental function of counties, namely zoning."

The lawsuit specifically targeted ordinances which include farmland. They say the plans conflict with a state statute.

The lawsuit was called off while they waited for Gretna to finalize and vote on the annexation plan. Sarpy County has stated they will evaluate whether they need to take further legal action.
