Man Arrested After Shooting At Omaha Police Officer

A man has been arrested after Omaha Police say he fired shots at an officer near 46th and Lafayette. Police say the incident happened around 12:45 when the officer observed an unmarked vehicle occupied by a male he knew to be a gang member with a gun in his hand.

The officer pulled around the corner to radio for assistance and put on his tactical vest, which identifies him as an Omaha Police Department officer.

As he was doing this, the gang member came around the corner and fired a gun at the officer, who was seated in his vehicle.  The police vehicle was struck by rounds, and the officer was able to take evasive measures.  He did not fire his weapon.

The gang member ran from the scene and a perimeter was set up.  18 year old Xavier Valentine was eventually located in the area and arrested.  He was booked for Felony Assault on an Officer, Gun Prohibited Person and Gun used in a Felony.

The officer suffered some minor glass injuries and was medically cleared at the hospital.
