Lancaster County Attorney Joe Kelly has been nominated to be the next U.S. attorney in Nebraska. President Donald Trump nominated Kelly for the position.
The 61-year-old has been the Lancaster County Attorney since first being elected in 2010 and winning re-election in 2014. Kelly will undergo a confirmation hearing before the U.S. Senate at a future date.
“Joe Kelly is a proven public servant with the humility and honesty that Nebraskans demand and respect," says Senator Ben Sasse, who recommended Kelly to the White House. " I look forward to working with Joe as he moves through the Judiciary Committee toward confirmation.”
If nominated, the Lancaster County Board will name a replacement to fill Kelly's role until the November 2018 election.
