Residents in Millard voted Tuesday to pass a school district levy override.
Over 30,000 ballots from Douglas and Sarpy counties were turned in, with over 19,000 in favor of the override and roughly 11,600 against.
Approval of the override means taxes will be raised for those living in the Millard School District in order to provide more funding for schools. The override gives the district the ability to levy up to nine cents for every $100 of land valuation.
Members of the school board decided in September to put the levy override up for a vote after they say they exhausted all other options to keep the district competitive.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the school board assured residents that they would make sure the district operates as they always have:
"We want you to know we are fully committed to being the fiscally conservative board we have always been. We recognize our community expects financial accountability. Our commitment to you is to continue to operate Millard as a first class business, with an excellent education as our product and a close eye on the bottom line as our constant measure of accountability."
