The United States Attorney's office says a 31 year old Guatemalan man has been sentenced for being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm.
On Monday, Acting U.S. Attorney Robert C. Stuart announced that Judge Laurie Smith Camp sentenced Luis Lorenzo-Urbina, of Bellevue, to fifteen months in prison.
Lorenzo-Urbina entered the United States illegally, and was placed on an immigration bond while being allowed to stay in the U.S. pending the completion of proceedings in an immigration court. In May of 2017, Bellevue Police were called to a disturbance and encountered Lorenzo-Urbina. Officers searched his vehicle and discovered a shotgun and handgun.
During the investigation, authorities determined that the guns had been stolen from a home in Iowa. Lorenzo-Urbina was seen on surveillance video showing the handgun to a pawn shop employee just days after the guns were reported stolen.
Once Lorenzo-Urbina finishes his prison sentence, he will serve three years on supervised release.
