Omaha Tops Realtor.com List For Highest Home Appreciation

Omaha's economy and strong job market have helped land the metro the number one spot on Realtor.com's Metros with the Fastest Rising Prices for Homes.

Nebraska's biggest city earned the top spot by having a strong housing market, increasing home prices and fast-selling houses thanks in large part to growth in the health care and financial sectors.

Judy Dooley with Nebraska Realty says jobs are one of the biggest reasons why home sales are so strong in the Omaha metro. "We have a lot of larger companies that are here in Omaha that are going to support the job market, obviously keeping the economy strong. So that's going to drive people to move here."

Dooley says right now, it is definitely a sellers market, and she doesn't see that changing anytime soon. "Definitely the first part of 2018 is going to be strong, especially if we keep seeing a shortage on houses being on the market."

Average home prices in the metro land around $200,000, with the fastest selling homes coming in at $250,000 and less. Other cities on the growing home prices list are Santa Maria, California; Charlotte, North Carolina and Grand Rapids, Michigan.
