Jack Eichorst Released On Bond

On Monday 18 year old Jack Eichorst made his first court appearance on sexual assault allegations involving a 12 year old boy.

A judge set bond at $25-thousand for Eichorst.  The family of former Nebraska Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst posted the $2,500 bond to get him out of jail.

Eichorst's arraignment was scheduled for November 17.  Police said Eichorst is not allowed to be seen with anyone under the age of 16 except siblings, but a parent must be present.

In a probable cause affidavit, Jack Eichorst told police about a sexual encounter with a 12-year-old boy. He insisted the contact was consensual.

According to the affidavit, the 12-year-old boy went to a school counselor on Oct. 26 to report he was the victim of a sexual assault.

Lincoln police were notified, and the next day in an interview, the 12-year-old alleged he was subjected to sexual penetration by Eichorst without his consent.

A statement was issued Monday evening on behalf of the Eichorst's family:

"Jack is an amazing boy whose compassion, character, and giving heart, are admired by his loving parents, family and friends. His autism has never slowed his passion for life or his trust in others. Thankfully he is now home and I ask that the public respect the family's privacy during this difficult time."

Eichorst is a senior at Lincoln Southwest High School and was arrested last Friday.  Lincoln police say that Jack Eichorst and the victim had been engaged in electronic communications since Oct. 21, during which Eichorst "acknowledged and apologized for the assault."

Longtime Omaha defense attorney James Martin Davis says the fact Eichorst is autistic could lead to a reduced felony charge.
