Nebraska Penitentiary Employee Arrested

Employees at the Nebraska State Penitentiary in Lincoln stopped a staff member from bringing contraband into the prison on Saturday.

Department of Corrections authorities say 24 year old Michael Miller was arrested November 4th on charges of Bribery and Unauthorized Communication with an Inmate.

During a search of Miller's car, packages of K2 were found. During an interview with an investigator Miller said that he intended to bring the K2 into the prison for an inmate.

Nebraska Department of Corrections Director Scott Frakes says it was disappointing to see a staff member break the law and put inmates and staff in danger. “The side effects of K2 pose a significant risk to the user and can result in violent behavior, which also puts my team’s safety at risk. The penitentiary team caught the K2 before it entered the facility. We will continue to employ security measures in our prisons to prevent the introduction of contraband and keep people safe.”

Miller has worked at the Nebraska State Penitentiary since August of 2016 and was promoted to corporal in May of this year. He has been suspended without pay.
