Man Slips Handcuffs, Leads Omaha Police On Foot Chase

There were some tense moments late Monday morning as Omaha Police tracked down a man who slipped out of his handcuffs and ran from officers.

It all began when Omaha Police responded to the area of Tudor Heights Apartments at 108th and West Maple Street at 9 a.m. to investigate a report of a man armed with a handgun in the area. Officers located the man near the Runza parking lot and saw him toss a gun in a dumpster.

As officers tried to take 27 year old Lonnie Perrie into custody, he began to fight with officers. After deploying a Taser, Perry was taken into custody and transported to Methodist Hospital for treatment of minor injuries from the struggle.

As officers were preparing to take Perry to jail upon his release from the hospital, Sergeant Mark Noonan says Perry was able to slip out of one of his handcuffs and flee on foot across Dodge Street.  Officers on foot and in cruisers tracked Perry down in the Security National Bank Parking lot near 78th and Cass Street.

Police say sometime between his escape and recapture, Perry was assisted by 25 year old Michael Matthews, who gave Perry a change of clothes.  Perry was booked for felon in possession of a handgun, criminal impersonation, possession of a stolen firearm, escape, and a previous felony warrant for escape.

Matthews was booked for aiding and abetting a fugitive.
