City Agencies Collecting Toys For Children In Need

Christmas may still be a few weeks away, but Mayor Jean Stothert's office and the Omaha Police and Fire Departments want to make sure children in need have gifts under their trees.

Marine Corps Reserve Gunnery Sergeant, and Toys for Tots coordinator, Angel Muro says the city government departments are coming together to make sure children in the metro have a happy holiday. "It just shows that the city from the top all the way down to the bottom, meaning the city residents, are willing to sit there and come together for the goal of producing a toy for a child in need during the holiday season."

Muro says they usually see small businesses and other groups coming together to collect toys, but for all of the major government agencies in the metro to team up is something special. "This is probably the first time that I've seen multiple groups to join forces to help out a child in need."

There is a lot of preparation that goes in to collecting the toys, but Muro says all the hard work is worth it. "There's no greater feeling than seeing a child receive a toy from us and the look that they have in their eyes."

New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off now through December 1st at Mayor Stothert's office, 1819 Farnam Street Suite 300, or at any Omaha Police or Fire Station during regular business hours. You can find a list of Fire Stations here and Police Stations here
