Bullet Misses One Year Old In Car Seat

An Omaha family is counting their blessings after a stray bullet near struck a one year old boy riding in his car seat.

After a gunman robbed the VP Racing gas station on 13th Street south of Henry Doorly Zoo around 11:30 a.m. police say the suspect jumped into a vehicle and fired several shots.

The bullets struck a customer's SUV in the parking lot and a van that was southbound on 13th Street. Oscar Gomez's 1 year-old son Leo was strapped in his car seat when one of those stray bullets broke through the window of their minivan. 

Gomez told 6 News: "We are lucky."  Gomez said he was on his way to church when he suddenly heard a loud crash.  "It was a bullet. Somebody shot my van.  I could see the little hole."

The bullet's path was dangerously close to Little Leo's car seat.  "I feel very good that my little boy is okay," Gomez told 6 News 

According to witnesses the suspect was a man wearing a light hoodie with a stocking cap. He was last seen driving away in a gray or green sedan.
