Man charged With Accessory To Murder Is Ordered To Stand Trial

A man accused of Accessory to Second Degree Murder in the September 18th shooting death of James Womack has been ordered to stand trial.

On Friday, a Douglas County judge ruled that there was enough evidence to support a case against 24 year old Michael Benson. Prosecutors say Benson was in the vehicle when 32 year old truck driver James Womack was shot after an altercation at the intersection of 60th and L.

Police say Womack had exited his semi at the intersection, yelled at someone in a Chevy Silverado pickup, then as Womack walked back to his truck, witnesses say he was shot in the back. Benson's vehicle was identified as the one used during the deadly altercation, but he told police his truck had been stolen a day prior to the shooting. Security footage from the HyVee at 96th and Q placed Benson in the pickup just three hours before the shooting.

Authorities say at least one other person was in the truck at the time, but detectives are still trying to determine who that person was.

No other arrests have been made in connection to the case. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 444-STOP.
