Dog Attack Leads Police To Marijuana Grow Operation

The stabbing of a dog in Council Bluffs leads police to a marijuana grow operation inside a home and the arrest of the homeowner.  It all began around midnight Thursday when a neighbor's dog had gotten loose and was attacking other dogs near 18th Street and 7th Avenue.

The owner of the dogs that were being attacked, 52 year old James Herman,  attempted to stop the attack by hitting the dog with his fists. When that didn't stop the attack, Herman grabbed a knife and stabbed the dog several times.  Herman received a minor laceration to his hand during the attack and also threatened to stab the owner of the dog.

While discussing the incident with Herman, officers discovered a marijuana grow operation inside his house along with several items of drug paraphernalia.  After getting a search warrant,  police arrested Herman and seized the plants and paraphernalia.

Herman was booked on several charges, including manufacturing marijuana, harassment and possession of a controlled substance.

The dog that Herman stabbed was taken to a vet clinic. Its current condition is not yet known.
