Another Lincoln Police Officer Resigns Amid Assault Allegations

A second Lincoln Police officer has resigned amid allegations of sexual assault.

Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister says this is the second officer to be caught up in an internal investigation into sexual assault allegations after an officer was accused earlier in October. "During the course of our on-going internal investigation we identified a second officer who violated the Lincoln Police Department's General Orders and Code of Ethics."

Bliemeister says the officer was put on administrative leave on October 27 and turned in their resignation this week.

The Nebraska State Patrol has also launched a criminal investigation into the incident, but Bliemeister says the second officer was not part of the initial case. "This officer was not part of the original complaint received by the Nebraska State Patrol and there are no allegations of criminal wrongdoing."

The names of the officers involved have not been released.
