The Council Bluffs Police and Fire Department were called to North Broadway and Happy Hollow Blvd at 12:30 a.m. Sunday after an SUV went through fencing and crashed into the Indian Creek canal.
Police say a 1999 Jeep Cherokee was southbound on North Broadway in the northbound lanes when the driver lost control and it left the roadway backwards. The SUV then went through the fence and dropped 15-20 feet into the canal, landing on it's tires.
Police say a 21 year old woman got out of the vehicle before it went over the edge. A number of neighbors heard the crash and rushed to assist the victim and call 911.
She was taken to an Omaha hospital with serious injuries. Her name has not been released yet. Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call 712-328-4948 or Council Bluffs Crime Stoppers at 712-328-STOP.
