GPS Leads Omaha Police To Truck Thief

It didn't take long for Omaha Police to put a truck thief in handcuffs Wednesday morning. Sergeant Tim Brown says the construction truck and trailer attached to it were taken from the Arby's at 53rd and Center around 8:30 a.m.

The driver ended up in the back parking lot of Norris Middle School south of 45th and Center. The truck had a GPS system and the company owner was able to call police and direct them to the school.

Brown says the suspect was trying to unhitch the trailer as officers arrived.  Once he saw officers, the suspect got back into the truck and drove through a fence leading to the football field before getting stuck.

The Omaha Public School District said Norris was placed into lockout for less than a minute while officers made the arrest.  No students or staff members were in danger and parents were notified.
