Teen Talks About Brutal Assault In Bellevue Park

A teenager who was repeatedly punched and kicked by four other teens 3-4 weeks ago is talking about the brutal attack that was caught on cell phone video.

In happened at Freeman Park near Bellevue East High School.  The video starts with vicious punches thrown at the unsuspecting teen, who was sitting on a bench.  The four suspects deliver several blows before one teen runs and jumps on Kalani Zalopany's face.

"Yeah it was pretty brutal," Zalopany told 6 News.  "At first I didn't even know that he jumped on my face until I saw the video.”

Zalopany says he started to lose consciousness. "My brain was going in shock. It was crazy. I was about to pass out. I didn't really know what was going on." He tells 6 News that he believes the attack was retaliation for rude comments he'd just made to a girl. "It hurt a lot. I'll be completely honest."

The video was posted on Facebook Monday and has been seen by tens of thousands of people.

Bellevue Police say they are still trying to identify all of the people involved.  "What I regret most is that I didn't really even try to fight back. I kind of froze up," said Zalopany.  He thinks if he tried to put up more of a fight things could have gotten worse for him. His advice to others that may be in the same boat one day…"There's nothing bad about running away."

While the attack happened just off of school property, the school district says they are helping investigators in any way that they can.
