Benson's Zombie Walk Is A Go

There will be a Zombie Walk in Benson this year after all.  A group of businesses and organizations stepped forward to organize the event after they heard there wasn't going to be one this year.

the 2017 Zombie Walk is set for Friday, November 3rd.  This year's event will coincide with the November edition of Benson First Friday.  Alex Jochim is the executive director of First Friday events and says "The annual Omaha Zombie Walk has become synonymous with Benson so a group of us got together to make sure it continues."

Jochim says several make-up stations will be set up inside Burke's Pub at 61st and Maple Street for those wanting to look the part.  That will start around 4:30.  They are asking for donations that will benefit the Siena/Francis House. There will also be several collection locations along the walk route.

Participants are asked to gather in the parking lot of the Citylight Arts Project Building at 5603 Northwest Radial Highway by 6:30 p.m. Participants will then stroll down Maple Street.   As in years past, Maple Street will not be closed to traffic so walkers should use sidewalks and follow all traffic signals.  Drivers should be aware of the increased pedestrians in the area.

Jochim says the Zombie Walk is a family friendly event.  A number of businesses in Benson are offering specials for participants ranging in ice cream for kids to drink specials for adults. Barchen at 62nd and Maple will host a zombie fashion contest following the walk at 7:30.  All the events are free and open to the public.
