Real Estate Agent Pleads No Contest To Manslaughter

On Monday, the Omaha real estate agent accused of running over and killing a convenience store employee pleaded no contest to Manslaughter charges.

The incident happened January 7th, when 46 year old Dirk Blume allegedly ran down 40 year old Seth Hansen in the parking lot of the Speedee Mart near 138th and Maple.

Investigators say there had been an argument between the men in the store after Hansen refused to sell chewing tobacco to Blume since he was closed for the night. When Hansen reportedly went to take out the trash around 12:30 AM, Blume was waiting for him in his truck in the parking lot. The two again exchanged words, Hansen stepped in front of the truck and the vehicle sped up to hit him.

Hansen was struck by the truck, fell to the ground and hit his head on the concrete. Hansen's cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma.

Blume was arrested about a week after the incident and was charged with Second Degree Murder. He accepted a plea deal that lowered the charges to Manslaughter and Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony, to which he pleaded no contest.

Blume faces up to 70 years in prison when he is sentenced on December 11th.
