Lincoln Police officials say a police officer has quit amid sexual assault allegations.
Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister says the Nebraska State Patrol notified him on Wednesday, October 18th that one of his officers was involved in an inappropriate relationship and reported sexual assault. The incident reportedly began with prior contact made by the officer in an official capacity.
Bliemeister says he placed the unnamed officer on administrative leave on the same day, and the officer decided to leave the department two days later on Friday, October 20th. The chief says he and his department will work with the Nebraska State Patrol and Lancaster County Attorney's Office to make sure an appropriate outcome is reached.
An internal investigation has been launched by the Lincoln Police Department and Bliemeister says they will conduct their investigation in a way as to not interfere with the State Patrol's investigation.
